War Horse

The National Theatre is one of the most famous and prestigious set of stages that any actor in theatre would ever step foot on. I went to see a production of War Horse, which I was rather skeptical about, but have no regrets having seen it!

The production has sold out at this venue, and by popular demand, has moved to a theatre in Drury Lane, after having graced the Olivier Theatre in the South Bank. The play tells the story of a young horse purchased at an auction for an expensive value by a drunk father. He takes it home, only for it to be taken care of by his son. However, all it is good for is running. Without ruining much of the plot, the horse eventually goes to war in WWI.

A combination of great acting, amazing light and sound designs, and realistic portrayal of horses on stage makes this a must-see!

Zavvi, going… going… (gone)

28 12 2008

I went into 1 Piccadilly, former home of Tower Records, and current home of Zavvi. I have been keeping up with the economic crisis of today, and have heard Zavvi had gone into administration. And yup, as I guessed, they were doing a clear out in one of the biggest Zavvi stores in Britain.

The end for Zavvi

The end for Zavvi

However, I must say, there weren’t many deals on. I asked one of the people working there how long it would be until the store closes for good, and he, quite annoyed, said within a few weeks. I would have thought that maybe with such short notice, they would be trying to get rid of their stock as soon as possible, thus reducing their prices further. I did manage to find one bargain, which was House season 4, for £15! So, if you’re a House addict, purchase in Zavvi now, for I am sure you won’t find such prices for a while!

It’s a shame that so many stores are closing down. Zavvi is not the only company to go into administration lately. Whittards and The Officers Club have both joined in recent days, soon no doubt to start closing their stores. Woolworths have finally shut down, cutting supplies to Zavvi, which was it’s main source for products. Many people will be out of jobs, and the demand for jobs will become high. This is indeed a bleak start for the economy in 2009.
